Names for the Eccentric Aristocrats

Image
Edith Sitwell and her brothers Osbert and Sacheverell by Cecil Beaton This is essentially a companion to the "For the Shabby Aristocrat Family" , but less modern. I love these sort of names, the ones I can imagine on rich families from the 1900's to the 20's, that perhaps didn't fit in with their peers. The Aunt was probably wild and traveled the world, always bringing gifts for the children and never settling down. The father was obsessed with finding first edition classics and spent all his money on it, while the mother was a celebrated beauty who rubbed elbows with artists and intellects. The daughter had a fling with a jazz musician, and the son lived modestly renouncing his aristocratic roots. They all have weird little nicknames for each other, derived from their actual names or not, and most of their names could only be pulled off by someone as strangely cool as them. Names for The Family That are Southern Royalty

Image
Dress by SartorialMatters For the family that has had that grand house for at least two generations; the swamps surrounding it holding their own sort of beauty. The girls wear pearls and the boys wear slacks, and they are a sort of royalty. Fresh iced tea is always on hand, and a Rolls-Royce is parked in front. They always attend church, despite the shady ways they came into money and power, and the older generations still talk about the Civil War as if it was something to be proud of. The children, both girls and boys, proudly wear family names and surnames like badges of honor. They are vain and pretentious, but you can't help but be drawn in by that Southern charm. For the Shabby Aristocrat Family

Image
Vintage Girl's Shoes by TheAquaNest on of Etsy For the family that has a mansion by a lake where they spend their summers, but prefers their apartment in Paris. For the family that takes their children to art galleries, and then out to eat pastries and buy flowers. For the family that prefers grandmother's pearls to a new pair of shoes. They have a party for every holiday, apple bobbing and hide-n-seek for Halloween, followed by chocolate cake and the original "The Wolfman". For Christmas, they decorate the whole house, and have a great feast, each person getting one small but lavish gift. They are the shabby aristocrats, rich but eccentric, unable to fit into the molds of the past or the present. Names for That Family Who Live in the Old Decrepit Castle

Teacup and saucer by AustinModern of Etsy And may, or may not, be vampires, who may, or may not, have a mermaid in the lake behind their house, who may, or may not, have a ghost for each room. You know the family. They all dress in vintage clothing, they play with Victorian dolls, and have pet ravens named Faust and Hyde and serve you chocolates which might have a dose or two of cyanide, for fun, of course. Here is a new segment in which I will be naming different families from my imagination. I would assume this family would use very elaborate, Gothic, or fusty names.
